A Decemeber to Remember

The Elves here at LLS are hard at work as always, building amazing things like custom graphics, Logos, websites, Game Illustrations and much more! One of the things we like to do is share our thoughts on what's happening in the world of design, and show a little bit of what we are currently working on.

From what I can see, there are several trends going on right now. Have you noticed websites or backgrounds featuring a photograph of a tabletop with various elements related to that particular site placed on it? For instance a photography website might show a tabletop behind their main header or Logo, with old fashioned cameras and film laying around. Well I have noticed a TON of this style web design and I like it a lot. Your photo can be as rustic or modern as you want. You can customize the theme of each uniqute site by finding relevant articles and placing them strategically around, and adding the company logo to the center of the image. Still, since it's trending, that means it is also probably overdone and not as unique a look as some might want. Here's an example:

Another design trend I have seen, that has been going on a few years now, is the use of chalk. Chalk-style brushes are being used in all sorts of design, from illustrations, text, and backgrounds. I personally love it because it creates a nice texture with just enough roughness to make designs look custom and hand-drawn. You can see a lot of the use of chalk-brushes in children's illustrations. I would just caution being too heavy-handed, as the texture can be distracting if it's all over the place. I made my own twitter and website background using some subtle chalk textures. I call this piece "Chuggy the Whale", and I think it really shows off what can be done by us at LLS. As always, you can see high res images, and drop us a line at www.LivingLoreArt.com
